On the misty morning of June 9, 2015, Bayside High School had their Awards Ceremony. I accompanied Brother Lou Slavicek, DSA into the auditorium, we took seats up on the stage, and waited for the ceremonies to begin. Seventy years ago this month, Brother Lou graduated from this school, so he felt right at home. He graciously introduced me to a number of the faculty and the ceremonies began.
Brother Lou had three awards to present, two from Francis Lewis #273 as Scholarship awards for citizenship and service to the community. The third one was an award dedicated to his wife for any student pursuing a nursing career, The Myrt Slavicek Scholarship award. The three students receiving these awards, Rosa Garcia and Sammuel Kim, the Francis Lewis Awards, and Mariela Medina, the Myrt Slavicek award, were very pleased with the awards and I could tell these students would do well in the future.
We wish bright tomorrows to these and to all the graduates of 2015 at Bayside High School. Congratulations students and also to Brother Lou Slavicek for his seventy years a graduate.
Peace and Brotherhood,
W Nick Isabella
